Research & Development

Heating Technology:

Phillips & Temro offers a complete solution to our customers’ heating technology needs.

Our advanced development work strives to anticipate customer needs in the diesel cold start technology and related areas.  From new product lines to new approaches to our current product lines, we do the background work so that we can be ready for your application.

In the concept phase of a customer project, Phillips & Temro generates 3D CAD models to support upfront computer analysis of our designs.  From digital fit checks to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to Finite Element Analysis (FEA), we optimize our solutions as soon as possible in the design cycle before physical parts have been built.

When we transition to physical prototypes in a project, Phillips & Temro can support a wide range of solutions, from quick turn SLA prototyping methods for physical fit checks to full production representative parts for testing.  In quantities from one to hundreds, we identify the best prototype approach for the project objective to ensure fast, representative parts in the most cost effective manner possible.

And once those parts are available, Phillips & Temro has superior testing facilities available to test the part’s performance & durability , both  stand-alone and in the customer’s system.   With two cold rooms capable of chilling a semi tractor to -40°C,  vibration test equipment, thermal cycle benches, electronic test equipment, and  data collection systems, we have the resources needed to verify and validate our products in your systems.

Cooling Technology:

The Fans Division of Phillips and Temro Industries produces Truflo engine cooling fans in its manufacturing facility in Tipton, UK, with sales and distribution located in Europe, North America, and Asia. The Fans Division Truflo factory is the world’s largest manufacturer of steel fans and is the innovation leader in the development of composite construction fans, incorporating plastics and aluminum.

Truflo has been providing fan solutions to the diesel-powered construction and power generation industries for over 50 years. Through these many years,  we have gained a progressive understanding of our customers’ needs. Truflo fans meet performance and noise requirements while providing great value and durability.  In any fan application, there is an optimum solution, and we are dedicated to supplying it.

We strive to understand our customers’ cooling needs, and we answer those needs with suitable, cost-effective fan solutions. Our sales people and engineers work closely with our customers to find the best design for the application. We test our fans’ performance under realistic conditions so our customers can rely on them for “real-world” use. Our innovative new product development team, and our investments in extensive R&D and testing facilities, ensure that our fans are the best choice for your requirements.

Truflo has a wind tunnel based on ISO5801 (AMCA 210) which is capable of testing fans up to 2130 mm (84”) diameter. Noise is measured to determine the most appropriate fan diameter and most effective fan geometry in order to achieve performance goals. We work in collaboration with our customers to offer a systems approach that includes a fan which acts not as only  a single component, but functions as an integral part of the total system: fan, shroud and radiator.  This systems approach helps ensure that products are optimally installed to  deliver the best results for cooling and noise reduction.

Silencing/Emissions Technology:

Phillips and Temro’s silencer division has been providing exhaust noise solutions through our COWL and EM brand silencers for many decades. We have the in-house expertise to evaluate applications and offer solutions to meet and exceed customer requirements. We work closely with our customers  to find the most cost effective solutions to their noise problems.

We understand the challenges of predicting noise accurately. Over the years, we’ve developed acoustic empirical models to better predict the performance of our silencers. We have the capability to use FE (Finite Element) and CFD based numerical simulation tools to optimize  our silencers’ performance. With emphasis on quality and fast turnaround, we have helped our customers meet some of the toughest specifications in the industry. We are committed to constantly researching better ways to predict performance, extend service life,  and improve performance of our products.
